Rapier Activities |
The Unbaptized and the Virtuous Pagans Single sword bear pit. 1 point per win |
A Tournament, requiring combatants to conquer the obstacles of each of Hell’s nine circles. Details of each round appear below (subject to minor changes as we try them out to see just how fun they really are). Authorizations will begin when site opens at 10am. |
Tentative Tournament Schedule |
Round 1 11:00am |
You may fight in as few as 1 single combat fight, if you like. Or you may continue to go to the back of the line for the bear pits and participate in turn as many times in all nine circles of the tournament as you can stand. Accumulate points throughout the day until you think you have enough to win. |
Authorization ends promptly at 11am. Arrive early. |
Those Overcome by Lust Combatants will choose a partner, to whom they will remain “joined” using a fabric hand-hold and may only remain active while joined. If one partner dies, the other is anchored in the spot due to loss of love and may only maneuver in orbit around the fallen partner. 2 points per win to each team member. |
Gluttons Food-related off-hand weapons (e.g. a loaf of bread, napkins, mugs, candlesticks) must be used. A few will be available for loan, but we recommend you bring your own as we’d love to see it and tell you how witty you are. 1 point per win. |
The Miserly and the Prodigal As in Hell, two groups of fighters will push the great weight of their sins around for eternity (or at least until the round ceases). This will be a res battle. In the center of the field will be a large rock (not a real rock, don’t worry). The goal is to get the rock to the opposite side of the field. Proximity to each goal will be measured when time is called, if neither side succeeds in crossing the field entirely. DFB is allowed in this scenario. Each member of the winning team will receive points equal to 2x the number of the opposing team. |
Round 2 1:30ish |
The Wrathful, Sullen, and Slothful This will be a bear pit in which all participants begin the fight legged (we’ll work with those who have physical limitations). A quick-draw fight with participants’ weapons beginning on the ground beside them and hands in laps. 1 point per win. |
The City of Dis In the Inferno, heretics are trapped here in their tombs. A circle will be marked on the ground representing the flaming walls of the tomb, and crossing that line results in instant fiery death. 1 point per win. |
The Violent, Suicides, Blasphemers, Sodomites, and Userers In this ring of hell, suicides are turned to thorny bushes while others are chased by dogs. This will be a fox & hounds style bear pit. Scattered about the field will be suicide trees, an obstacle that may be deadly to the touch (if we have enough line marshals). For those unfamiliar with the fox & hounds format, when a “fox” dies, the “hound” who struck the killing blow becomes the fox and defends against the other hounds on the field. When a hound dies, another joins the fray from the line. 1 point per kill. |
Round 3 3ish |
The Fraudulent There are actually 10 sub-circles in this level of hell—we’ll be in Bolgia 7 with the thieves, where snakes continually bite the sinners, with snake bites resulting in a transformation. For this round, also a bear pit, participants will enter the field with a dice roll. One die will indicate the weapon s/he may use. The other will determine the only way in which s/he may be killed in that battle. 1 point per win. |
The Traitors We’ll end our tour of hell with a final traitorous clash. Everyone will take the field for a free-for-all. Make alliances to increase your chances of survival, but beware the moment when your newfound friends become treacherous. DFB will be active for this scenario. The first to die gets 1 point, the second gets 2 points, the third gets 3, and so on... |
